Zavot KÖK Rural Memory and Learning Center Opens Its Doors!
The historic stone building in Boğatepe village, which served as a primary school between 1961 and 1995 and was originally built by the village people through collective effort (imece), has been revitalized through a story of communal solidarity: Zavot KÖK is opening its doors!
Taking its name from our deep-rooted production heritage (Zavot) and the combination of the words Village, Teacher, and Culture (KÖK), Zavot KÖK aims to keep our rural education culture alive and connect our shared social memory to the future through the principle of cultural sustainability. The meticulous restoration, research, and archiving process, which began in 2020, has been completed through the joint efforts of our villagers, donors, and volunteers.
Zavot KÖK will serve both as a memory space displaying documents regarding our village's educational history and teachers, and as a new-generation rural learning space that embraces contemporary approaches.
We look forward to welcoming all our friends to our rich opening program, featuring panels, film screenings, talks, and music concerts, to be held on July 11–12 in collaboration with the International Gastronomy Film Festival at the Zavot KÖK and Ecomuseum Zavot Multi-Purpose Cultural Hall.
