This project, initiated by Yer Gök Anadolu Derneği (YEGA), was a foundational step aimed at preserving the endangered agricultural biodiversity and heirloom seeds of the Kars region. It also served as a catalyst for the establishment of the Boğatepe Environment and Life Association (ÇEVDER). Within the scope of the project, experts from YEGA and Kafkas University provided training to farmers in 11 pilot villages in Kars: Büyükçatma, Kuyucuk, İncedere, Bozyiğit, Akçakale, Yolboyu, Çakmak, Melikköy, Taşbaşı, Boğatepe, and Derinöz. During the training sessions, farmers were taught how to organically produce old seeds such as kavılca, how to preserve traditional knowledge, and how to market their products. At the end of the project, five villages (Yolboyu, Çakmak, Melikköy, İncedere, and Boğatepe) obtained organic farming certification, and tons of crops such as kavılca and zeyrek, which are endangered, were harvested and delivered to organic markets in Istanbul. and the kavılca seed, which was only found in three villages at the start of the project, spread to approximately 20 villages within a year through bartering. Farmers saved significantly on chemical fertilizer and commercial seed costs. But beyond the numbers, this project created awareness and confidence among the local people about preserving lost values.
